Mind-Body Medicine (MBM)

MBM are practices that focus on the interaction between the brain, mind, body and behaviour with the intent to use the mind to improve physical functioning and promote health.  MBM  is an holistic approach to health and well being and combines bodies of knowledge such as psychology, nutrition, physiology, biochemistry and quantum physics and  metaphysics  within a practical and dynamic therapeutic approach.

The MBM modalities used in this practice include flower essence therapies, acupoint treatment, meditation, guided imagery, progressive relaxation and mindfulness based approaches.

Medical science now recognises that stress and negative mind states can alter body chemistry and create physical disease. Medical studies prove that depression is a greater cause of heart disease than smoking. Researchers found that in depressed people the blood platelets became stickier, clogging arteries and veins. Research has found that combinations of MBM therapies can also help with acute and chronic pain, headache, high blood pressure and stress.

How MBM modalities work

MBM modalities have a positive impact your physiology.  In most cases, the fight or flight reaction of your sympathetic nervous system is calmed and the rest and digest reaction of the parasympathetic nervous system is enhanced.  Stress hormones may be reduced.  In some cases, brain waves are calmed, blood flow is increased and the immune system is stimulated.  And, in others, such as regular meditation, the frontal lobe of the brain can experience additional growth.
